Post by: Ron Moore, Vice President In my role at SecuriCan, I often hear from people that had wanted to purchase pet insurance, and had every intention of doing so, but for one reason or another did not. Now that their pet is sick, they want us to cover their expenses. While we love pets just as much as you do, we also must act in a responsible manner for all of our existing members, ensuring that the company stays viable for when they need us. Procrastination is the reason why this happens and recently I was a victim to its grasp. Recently my family added a new member to our family, a golden retriever by the name of Cooper (the pup on the right) - a great dog that we quickly learned to love. Recently we took Cooper and our 2 other dogs, Angel and Lady (beside Cooper in the 'family' photo), to the vet for their annual checkups, where we were told that Cooper had Lyme disease. Fortunately, we have caught it and have him on the necessary medicine, but procrastination is what kept me from having Cooper enrolled on a plan during this first month of ownership. Coverage that would have paid for 80% of the medical expenses I incurred. Now that the disease has been diagnosed there will be a pre-existing condition on his file for the next year, but this will not stop me from signing him up so we can ensure coverage for future illness and accidents, however it was a lesson in how procrastination can impact us. I share this story for those that are waiting to see if you will need pet insurance. When your pet has an unexpected accident or illness, you don't want to be wishing you had signed up for a policy last month. The unexpected times are when you need it the most! So why not be proactive and do some research on various pet insurance plans? And if you already have a pet with a condition, you can still purchase pet insurance for future illness and accidents, only the pre-existing conditions wouldn't be covered. While procrastination can at times seem to be your friend because waiting is always a choice we have, it can also impact us as we stand by and watch those that we love be impacted by non-action.
